It is evident that Sony aimed to create a premier product in this category, and there are numerous features where it successfully meets that objective.
The design of the earbuds has been executed flawlessly, featuring a high-quality build and user-friendly touch controls. Furthermore, the audio performance of the Inzone Buds is exceptional. They deliver richly detailed sound, complemented by an extensive dynamic range and spatial audio capabilities, making them not only suitable for casual music enjoyment but also outstanding for various media and gaming experiences.
In-game performance may fluctuate, particularly with a somewhat unclear audio representation in the lower frequencies. Additionally, the presence of inconsistent Bluetooth connectivity introduces further challenges, leading to some frustrations with the Inzone Buds. Nevertheless, the impressive battery life enhances their appeal, positioning them as one of the top choices for gaming earbuds currently available.
The Sony Inzone Buds are presented in a robust yet simplistic charging case. The flat base of the carrying case allows it to rest securely on any flat surface. However, due to the earbuds being positioned flat within the case, it results in a relatively wide design when compared to models such as the Turtle Beach Scout Air and Razer Hammerhead Hyperspeed. Consequently, this case may not be the most convenient option for pocket storage.
The Inzone Buds are meticulously designed. Regardless of whether you choose the white or black variant, their understated yet elegant appearance ensures they do not attract excessive attention, rendering them suitable for use in both indoor and outdoor settings. I particularly appreciate the contrast between the matte finish of the body and the shinier material utilized for the touch controls.
The sides of the Inzone Buds that face the ears are conveniently labeled with indicators for the left and right ears. Upon removing them from the case and inserting them into your ears, you will hear a short, distinct jingle indicating that they are powered on. Additionally, a voice will inform you of the current mode of the buds, whether it is Bluetooth or USB transceiver.

Throughout extended periods of use, I did not experience the need to reposition the earbuds, nor did they generate any warmth or cause discomfort in my ears. This contributed to a remarkably seamless listening experience.
The USB-C dongle provided comes equipped with a switch that offers two distinct settings, allowing users to toggle between PS5 and mobile usage or PC functionality. A white LED located at the base of the dongle signifies that it is powered on, and there is a convenient reset button available for restoring the settings to the default USB transceiver configuration.
The Sony Inzone Buds deliver an exceptional auditory experience. They reproduce music and vocals with remarkable clarity and depth. I particularly appreciated their performance with tracks featuring electronic instrumentation or dynamic vocal showcases. The EDM-infused levels in Sonic Frontiers resonated with impressive intensity, while Amanda Achen’s powerful voice in Final Fantasy 14 Online made tracks such as Flow and Return to Oblivion particularly impactful. This robust vocal capability also makes the buds highly suitable for listening to podcasts and audiobooks.
One aspect in which the earbuds fall short is their performance in lower frequencies. Bass-heavy audio and particularly intense sound effects tend to sound somewhat muddled and lack clarity. While the quality is not entirely unacceptable, during gameplay of Gran Turismo 7, I observed that the deep engine roars and tire screeches were noticeably inferior in quality. Additionally, their performance is not optimal when multiple sound effects occur simultaneously. This is frequently the case in Final Fantasy 14 Online, where weapon skill effects and character dialogue are continuously present. In more chaotic scenarios, such as eight and 24-player raids, the audio becomes rather indistinct.
On the PlayStation 5, the Inzone earbuds benefit from the inclusion of 3D audio support, including both Sony’s Tempest 3D and the recently integrated Dolby Atmos. Although these audio modes enhance the sound experience to a degree, they do not match the significant impact provided by some of the top PS5 headsets or leading wireless gaming headsets, such as the SteelSeries Arctis 9 or the Sony Inzone H9.
The spatial audio experience sees some enhancement on PC, particularly due to the availability of the Inzone Hub app, which allows for a higher level of customization. However, the setup process can be quite tedious, as it requires you to take physical photographs of your ears for the software to create a personalized audio profile. Unfortunately, the effort may not be justified, as the spatial audio delivered lacks the richness and dynamism typically found in conventional gaming headsets equipped with larger drivers.
The Inzone Buds exhibit certain frustrations regarding their Bluetooth connectivity. Once in Bluetooth mode, the right earbud failed to revert to USB transceiver mode, even after unpairing from my phone and connecting the USB-C dongle. A hard reset using the switch located at the bottom of the dongle was necessary to resolve this issue. While this solution was effective, it was nonetheless inconvenient. Additionally, it is important to highlight that the earbuds utilize Bluetooth LE (Low Energy), which means they are incompatible with devices such as the Nintendo Switch or older Android and iOS models unless the provided 2.4GHz dongle is used.
The earbuds are equipped with an integrated microphone, which is adequate for standard phone calls; however, the quality of voice chat during gaming sessions was lacking. My voice was often perceived as rather faint, despite attempts to adjust the settings for improvement. While they serve their purpose, if you find yourself engaged in intense battles in games like Fortnite or PUBG Battlegrounds, you might consider opting for a conventional gaming headset to ensure more dependable communication.
The Inzone Buds are notably impressive in terms of battery life. They deliver an extensive 12 hours of usage on a single charge when connected via 2.4GHz, and approximately 24 hours when using Bluetooth. This ample battery capacity is sufficient for the majority of users throughout a day. Additionally, the charging case offers an extra 24 hours of battery life before requiring a recharge.
The Sony Inzone earbuds rank among the finest gaming earbuds currently available. They deliver remarkable audio quality, despite some muddiness in the lower frequencies, and offer excellent noise cancellation and battery longevity, making them a worthwhile investment. Although I would prefer enhanced spatial audio capabilities and more reliable Bluetooth connectivity, they represent a significant improvement over the majority of gaming earbuds on the market today.
