The RX 7900 XTX falls behind its competition and predecessor in terms of efficiency in one aspect. It consumes 20W more power than the 6950 XT and 35W more than the RTX 4080. Despite being a drawback, the slight increase in power consumption can be overlooked.
Ultimately, despite facing a premium, the RX 7900 XTX outshines its nearest counterpart, the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT, in terms of value based on its specifications at MSRP. The performance gap between the two cards, particularly in ray tracing and rasterized scenarios, clearly showcases this superiority, allowing the data to speak for itself.

In order to perform benchmarks for the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX, I have gathered frame rate information for resolutions of 1080p, 1440p, and 4K. During the testing phase, I have captured data using the top quality settings for every game, switching between ray tracing and rasterization. Each benchmark has been executed thrice to calculate an average outcome.

I anticipate a similar outcome when compared to the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090, and I will update our review if I have the opportunity to retest it.

At 1080p and 1440p, the RX 7900 XTX is on par with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070, which is priced. However, at 4K resolution, the RX 7900 XTX asserts its dominance with its 24GB VRAM, ensuring a superior level of performance.
The RX 7900 XTX performs adequately in terms of ray tracing, but it frequently lags behind its competitors. It is disappointing to see AMD cede ground in this area, similar to the Radeon RX 6000 series, but it is encouraging to note the company’s improvements in this regard.
The implementation of DLSS Frame Generation was essential for the RTX 40 series graphics cards to compete with the RX 7900 XTX in rasterized workloads, but it unfortunately exacerbates the difference in ray tracing capabilities.

The AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX is priced at maintaining the cost of team red’s flagship at the same level as when the RX 6900 XT was initially released. Although I would have liked to see a decrease in the cost of high-end graphics cards, rather than them staying the same, AMD’s decision is a welcome port in the storm of generational price increases from Nvidia.
The RX 7900 XTX is priced than the RTX 4080, making it a competitively priced option. If ray tracing is not a priority for you, this graphics card offers great value for its performance, delivering frame rates that either match or surpass its NVIDIA counterparts. Additionally, the extra 8GB of VRAM is a notable advantage.
Please keep in mind that although the RX 7900 XTX can handle games with ray tracing turned on, GeForce GPUs provide superior value with significantly higher performance levels. Despite this, it is a more worthwhile purchase compared to the RX 7900 XT, even with a price reduction.
The primary issue affecting the RX 7900 XTX (as well as all Radeon RX 700 series graphics cards) is the absence of a competitor to Nvidia’s DLSS Frame Generation. There has been no news regarding AMD FSR 3 or Fluid Motion Frame Technology since the introduction of RDNA 3 in November 2022, but it is anticipated that a solution will be announced at some stage in 2023.
In brief, the RX 7900 XTX at its manufacturer’s suggested retail price is a reliable option for individuals who enjoy experimenting with ray tracing rather than fully engaging in it, and who do not play games that utilize DLSS Frame Generation. It may become an even more appealing purchase once AMD FSR 3 is released, but it is not advisable to make a purchase solely based on future features.
