Review of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER Founder Edition.

This review will focus on the most recent and arguably the most prominent addition to NVIDIA’s Series 4000 SUPER graphics card range, the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER. It will highlight the founder edition from NVIDIA, characterized by its darker aesthetic. Despite featuring faster memory and a greater number of shader processors, the card’s performance closely aligns with that of the GeForce RTX 4080. This is primarily due to the 320W total graphics power (TGP), as both models are constrained by the same power limits. A significant advantage of this model is its reduced price, which has been lowered by $200. As previously noted, this card sets itself apart with an increased shader processor count, leading to a modest performance improvement. Importantly, the 4080 SUPER is offered at a lower price point than the standard 4080, retailing for $999. Launched on January 8th, 2024, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER is a high-performance graphics card built on a 5 nm manufacturing process, utilizing the AD103 graphics processor, specifically the AD103-400-A1 variant. It is compatible with DirectX 12 Ultimate, ensuring support for both current and upcoming gaming titles, including features such as hardware ray tracing and variable-rate shading. The AD103 chip has a die area of 379 mm² and houses 45.9 billion transistors. Its architecture comprises 10,240 shading units, 320 texture mapping units, and 112 raster operation pipelines (ROPs). The card also includes 320 tensor cores, which enhance machine learning capabilities, along with 80 ray tracing acceleration cores. With 16 GB of GDDR6X memory across a 256-bit memory interface, the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER operates at a base frequency of 2295 MHz, reaching a boost frequency of 2550 MHz. The memory operates at 1400 MHz, resulting in an effective speed of 22.4 Gbps.\

The GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER Founder Edition is equipped with the updated NVIDIA AD103 GPU, featuring a total of 10,240 active shader cores and 16GB of GDDR6 graphics memory operating at an effective speed of 23 Gbps. Palit has designed the card with a semi-passive cooling system, where the fans activate only when the GPU reaches a certain temperature. The card has a power consumption rating of 320W, with Palit allowing a slight increase in power to enhance performance. It operates at a boost clock speed of 2550 MHz, while the memory is set to the standard 23 Gbps. This model is likely to be the recommended retail version. The card, which has a darker aesthetic, requires a 16-pin power connector and maintains a maximum power draw of 320W. Display outputs include one HDMI 2.1 and three DisplayPort 1.4a connections. It connects to systems via a PCI-Express 4.0 x16 interface. Upon its release, the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER.
