Samsung unveils three new gaming monitors at CES 2024

The Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 is a 49 inch curved ultra-wide gaming monitor.

The Odyssey OLED G95SD is a 32 inch flat gaming monitor. The Odyssey OLED G80SD is a 27-inch flat gaming monitor. These are the first Odyssey OLED G6 and G60SD flat monitors Samsung has launched.

Because I am a simple guy with simple needs, I think the most interesting one of these models on paper is also the least interesting. That’s because it has an absurdly high refresh rate of 360Hz, which it combines with 1440p screen resolution and a 16:9 screen aspect ratio.

Samsung Display announced the beginning of mass production of these ultra-fast OLED screens last month. Dell and MSI are also rumored to be using them in upcoming monitors.

Do I really believe that I will be able to see the difference between the refresh rate of 240Hz on an OLED monitor and the refresh rate of 360Hz? Absolutely not. However, the larger number warms my heart.

The next monitor in the Odyssey range is the 49-inch 49-OLED OLED G9. The screen is curved and the refresh rate is 240Hz. The aspect ratio is 32:9 and the screen resolution is 5,120×1,440.

The last monitor in the range is the 32-inch 32 OLED G8. The screen is flat and the aspect ratio is 16:9. The refresh rate is 120Hz. The screen resolution is 4,960×1,440 and the screen is 32:9. Samsung did not include a 32-inch option for 1440p with the Odyssey G7.

Both of these top-of-the-line monitors will be outfitted with a variety of Samsung smart features, including a Smart TV platform to enable video streaming, a Gaming Hub to access cloud gaming services, a SmartThings hub to control compatible IoT devices, and “Multi Control”, which Samsung claims will enable the monitors to send text and images from the monitor to compatible Samsung laptops and tablets, as well as phones.

All three of these monitors are VESA Display HDR True Black 400 certified for a maximum brightness of 400 nits, with AMD FreeSync premium Pro support. All three of these monitors have built-in HDMI 2.1, HDMI 1.4 ports, and USB hubs.
