Mainstream Performance without breaking the bank?
There are still no popular graphics cards that provide enough gaming performance without breaking the bank in AMD’s Radeon RX 7000-series product lineup. Next week, when it may introduce new Radeon RX GPUs at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, it appears that the company will close this gap.
“Please join the @AMDRadeon team at Gamescom next week for our next major product announcements,” said Scott Herkelman, senior vice president and general manager graphics business unit at AMD. Echoing his colleague’s sentiments, The head of AMD’s gaming solutions, Frank Azor, stated that the company would reveal “exciting news” at the event.
Since AMD has been targeting the high-midrange market with its RX 6800/6900-series GPUs based on the RDNA 2 architecture since last year, it is about time for AMD to unveil its next-generation mainstream cards. Although the company introduced the top-of-the-line RX 7900 XTX and XT in December (among the best graphics cards available) and the more affordable RX 7600 in May, the much-anticipated Navi 32 GPU and the Radeon RX 7700 and 7800-series boards to compete with Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4070-series have yet to appear.
This delay is most likely brought on by AMD’s Radeon RX 6800/6900 GPUs, which are still available and may be able to match the performance of these much anticipated new versions. The Radeon RX 7000-series lineup will be updated with new models for gamers this quarter, according to AMD’s top executive. Given that the trade exhibition draws hundreds of thousands of participants, including gamers and industry professionals, and has widespread global awareness, Gamescom is a wonderful site to introduce new items.
Even though there are some preliminary details, we can only speculate at this point about the exact performance of the new Radeon RX 7700 and Radeon RX 7800-series graphics cards and how they compare to their predecessors and rivals. However, one thing is for certain: their price will be higher than the MSRPs of the Radeon RX 7600 ($269) and the Radeon RX 7900 GRE ($649).
